What we’ve been working on: sort by consensus, Android & iOS apps,  improved design, and more

It’s been a productive few months for us. With the new design you can now easily access the full power of Represent: location-awareness, topics, groups, comparing to other users, and  far fewer distractions.

We also added an iOS app to join our Android app, so you can ‘do the citizen thing’ rather than scrolling endless Facebook feeds or swiping right.

Improved Design

We found that a lot of the most powerful features were going unused, but when you found out about them you loved them. Solution: make things easy to discover.

The new left menu makes it easy to access key features. Since these will be new to most of you, let’s take a quick look.

Sort by consensus

We believe that most of us actually agree on most things (we’re all human, right?) but when we’re allowed to vote, the options are bundled together in ways that create unnecessary division. Eg we can vote only for the whole manifesto and the whole party, or to be ‘in’ or ‘out’ of Europe, when in fact life – especially a modern global life – is far more shades of grey.

So, long story short: we’re really proud to have this feature so what we can show that we are far more intelligent than our media likes to suggest.

Location-based questions

Whilst national politics leaves a lot to be desired, so many of the issues we’re deeply passionate about are either global or local. And that’s where we have even greater failings of governance: local councils don’t know how to be not-boring; and global politics lacks popular participation so ends up as the play-thing of the already-powerful.

Local questions are prioritised in your queue, so if there’s something you want to happen – be it supermarkets, schools, footpaths, or even to find teams for a regular game of football – add it, share it, and we’ll try our best to make sure people in your area see it. And don’t forget you can print our flyers, too!

Download Represent for Android and iOS

It’s been a while in the making, but the iOS app is finally live on the app store! The app with notify you if people are engaging with your questions, if there’s a new poll where you live, and if there are any updates to your groups.

We’d love to know what you think, and if it changes what you think democracy could (should?) be. Download on Android, from the iOS app store, or from Amazon (it’s free, naturally) then let us know what you think.

And that’s it. The next few months are packed with more exciting features, a whole load of brilliant activity around the UK Mayoral elections, and lot more opportunities to make a difference.

Until then, feel free to ask questions in the comments below, send us a message in the app or by email.
